Creating a solution to enhance and support collaboration between emergency medical teams when working with BC’s rural, remote and Indigenous communities

How might the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) & BC Emergency Medicine Network (BCEMN) provide a simple-to-use and replete repository of information of a rural community health centre in order to provide the most up to date, accurate, comprehensive representation of the centre when transmitting information amongst stakeholders in the healthcare chain.

What are we doing?

The solution should allow both the rural and urban medical teams to have immediate access to local context when treating and/or transporting emergent patients from remote communities in the province.

The solution will facilitate increased collaboration and mutual understanding of the situation for all parties involved, as well as decrease the requirement for the rural health care team to repeatedly provide information when treating urgent care patients.

Current status: Work In Progress.

About the University of British Columbia Cloud Innovation Centre (UBC-CIC)

UBC’s CIC is a public-private collaboration between UBC and Amazon. A CIC identifies digital transformation challenges, the problems or opportunities that matter to the community, and provides subject matter expertise and CIC leadership.

Using Amazon’s innovation methodology, dedicated UBC and Amazon CIC staff will work with students, staff and faculty, as well as community, government or not-for-profit organizations to define challenges, to engage with subject matter experts, to identify a solution, and to build a Proof of Concept (PoC). Through co-op and work-integrated learning, students also have an opportunity to learn new skills which they will later be able to apply in the workforce.

UBC’s CIC focuses on Community Health and Wellbeing.
